Arrival of KTM 890 Duke R in India, priced at ₹14.50 Lakh
The Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM has launched the much-anticipated 890 Duke R in India, marking the second phase of their comeback in the Indian market. Priced at ₹14.50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the 890 Duke R is a middleweight naked sports bike, often referred to as the "Super Scalpel."
The new 890 Duke R shares a similar appearance with the 790 Duke, but it has undergone significant updates under the hood. The bike is powered by an 899 cc parallel-twin engine that produces 119 bhp and 99 Nm, a departure from the engine used in the previously sold 790 Duke.
The 890 Duke R's braking system consists of dual-320 mm/ 240 mm discs with Brembo Stylema monobloc calipers, ensuring robust and reliable stopping power. This is a significant upgrade from the previous model.
The frame of the 890 Duke R remains the same as the 790 Duke, but the suspension setup has been enhanced. The bike is suspended on a 43 mm WP Apex USD fork and monoshock, with some form of adjustability, providing a smoother and more comfortable ride.
The seat height of the 890 Duke R is set at 834 mm, which is lower than the 790 Duke, making it more accessible for a wider range of riders.
The 890 Duke R features ride modes including Street, Rain, Sport, and an optional Track mode, catering to different riding styles and conditions. The bike's 5-inch TFT unit is Bluetooth compatible but does not support turn-by-turn navigation or music playback.
The new 890 Duke R competes against the Ducati Monster SP, Triumph Street Triple R, and the Kawasaki Z900. However, unlike the 790 Duke, the 890 Duke R does not come with a quick-shifter as standard. A quick-shifter is available as an option.
Cornering ABS, Supermoto ABS, and cornering traction control are available on the 890 Duke R, enhancing safety and control during high-speed manoeuvres.
KTM's second innings in India includes the launch of four new bikes, signalling the company's commitment to the Indian market. The 890 Duke R is the latest addition to KTM's lineup, offering a blend of power, performance, and style to Indian motorcycle enthusiasts.
