Artificial Intelligence expected to aid in bridging the educational disparity across the nation
The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) has unveiled its second-term vision, which includes a partnership with the Ministry of Education to launch an artificial intelligence-based platform called LEAD Education. This platform aims to reduce educational inequality by analysing individual learning behaviours and providing customised support.
LEAD Education was unveiled on Aug 25, joining a host of other achievements in NSTDA's second term. One of the most notable is the Medical AI Data Platform, a digital healthcare initiative that connects 7.8 million patients to local clinics, supporting the government's universal healthcare policy and easing overcrowding at major hospitals. The platform also helps researchers train AI models for faster and more accurate diagnoses, with over 2.2 million diagnostic images already in the making.
NSTDA's digital healthcare platform is not the only innovation spearheaded by the agency. Acting Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol stated that NSTDA aims to advance research and innovation in fields such as smart farming and disaster prevention. In line with this, NSTDA has produced new rice varieties resistant to pests, floods, and diseases. Additionally, the agency plans to develop smart greenhouses and livestock vaccines.
In an effort to improve rural access to clean water, NSTDA has established "water clinics" in several provinces. Furthermore, the agency has provided tools to prepare factories for the EU's carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM), set to take effect in 2026.
Another significant achievement is Traffy Fondue, a digital platform for city management. Currently used in 29 provinces by over 19,000 state agencies, Traffy Fondue helps citizens report problems such as earthquake damage and PM2.5 hotspots. The platform is also used for city management, with Traffy Fondue currently being used in 29 provinces by over 19,000 state agencies.
NSTDA's accomplishments in its first term were also highlighted by Prof Sukit Limpijumnong, the agency's president. Among these achievements is Traffy Fondue, a digital platform for city management that helps citizens report problems such as earthquake damage and PM2.5 hotspots. The platform is currently used in 29 provinces by over 19,000 state agencies.
The vision for NSTDA's second term was announced at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI). The agency's Acting Minister also chairs the National Science and Technology Development Board, demonstrating the government's commitment to scientific advancement and innovation.
