Artificial Intelligence functionality of Google broadens to five additional languages on a worldwide scale
Google has made a significant stride in its mission to make search more accessible and relevant to users worldwide. On September 8, 2025, the tech giant announced the expansion of its AI Mode search experience to five new languages: Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese.
This move is part of Google's recognition of diverse global search patterns and information needs. Instead of direct translation of English-language results, the system incorporates local context understanding, addressing the unique requirements of each language and region.
The new language support builds upon existing infrastructure that already handles queries measuring two to three times the length of traditional search inputs. Google employs a "query fan-out technique," breaking down user questions into multiple subtopics while simultaneously processing hundreds of related searches.
Hema Budaraju, Vice President of Product Management at Google Search, led this expansion. AI Mode now supports multimodal capabilities including text, voice, and image-based queries.
Google has also embedded links in AI Mode responses to improve web exploration, and the technical capabilities of AI Mode are processed through the same Gemini 2.5 infrastructure used for existing markets.
The deployment strategy for AI Mode accounts for cultural differences in information discovery, trust, and source attribution. The implementation in the new language markets maintains Google's emphasis on source attribution and factual accuracy.
Future development priorities for AI Mode include expanding agentic functions that enable users to complete tasks like restaurant reservations and ticket bookings directly through search interfaces.
Google's commitment to AI Mode is evident in the announcement that it will become the default search experience. The company plans to spend $75 billion on AI infrastructure throughout 2025, representing a significant increase from previous investment levels.
AI Mode is now available to Workspace accounts in the US, as of July 2, 2025. The system's technical capabilities include advanced multimodal processing and enhanced reasoning functions, making it a powerful tool for users seeking comprehensive and accurate information.
This expansion represents a major step toward making "truly global Search" accessible to more users in their preferred languages, further solidifying Google's position as a leader in search technology.
