Holy Cross's 11th Annual "Cross Tank" Competition Showcases Student Entrepreneurs and Introduces Trivflic

The 11th Annual "Cross Tank" Competition, formerly known as "Shark Tank," recently took place, providing a platform for student entrepreneurs at Holy Cross College to showcase their ingenuity and gain exposure to the business world.

At the helm of the competition is Matt Nickerson '24, who serves as the Chief Features Editor. In addition to this role, Nickerson is also a staff writer for the event. His responsibilities include crafting engaging content to captivate the audience and potential investors.

The questions for the competition's trivia segment are meticulously written by David, who scours news headlines, trending topics on Twitter, and popular conversations to ensure the questions are relevant and thought-provoking.

Trivflic, a gamified social media app, is another exciting development from Holy Cross. Co-founded by Thomas Haigh (T.J.) from Central Massachusetts and David Luigs from Atlanta, Georgia, Trivflic aims to fill a void in the trivia app market, as previous apps like Trivia Crack and HQ Trivia have faded into relative obscurity.

T.J. and David began working on Trivflic on November 26th, 2022, and have since poured a significant amount of time and effort into the app, totaling 10,484 hours and 452 days. Over the summer of 2023, T.J. was accepted into the StartUP Worcester program, hosted by the Worcester Chamber of Commerce and others. This opportunity allowed them to further develop their app and build a strong network within the business community.

Trivflic's office space at WorcLab has been instrumental in their progress. The shared workspace encourages collaboration and allows T.J. and David to push each other when motivation wanes and stay focused on their work.

The app is now available for download on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. Trivflic's questions are interconnected and follow a theme, ensuring that a user will never encounter a repeat question. The app's creators also promise a unique and engaging trivia experience.

Matt Nickerson '24, a student at Holy Cross, is featured on the app as both the Chief Features Editor and a staff writer. His profile photos were kindly taken by Charlotte Fallon '26 and Mara Galvin '24, while his staff writer profile photo was captured by Valentina Moran '23.

In a previous competition, T.J. and David won first prize for their business ideas in the "Concept Stage" at the 10th annual Shark Tank, hosted by HC Launch and the Ciocca Center. The Cross Tank Competition is a part of the HC Launch initiative via the Ciocca Center of Business, Ethics, and Society.

As Trivflic continues to grow and evolve, it promises to be an exciting addition to the world of social media and trivia apps. Keep an eye out for future updates and developments from this innovative team.
