Assessing Road Safety at Three-tier Schools: A Review by Law Enforcement Agencies
In the dark season, the safety of students at Erich-KΓ€stner and Ricarda-Huch schools in Offenbach has become a priority. The parental association responsible for student safety announced that there will be increased traffic controls in the future.
The focus of these traffic controls will be on enforcing safety regulations for children, including checking the roadworthiness of bicycles and ensuring compliance with the no-through traffic rule on Breslauer Street. On December 5th, a joint traffic control was conducted on Breslauer Street, resulting in the detection of 11 violations of the no-through traffic rule.
Ordnungsamt Daniel Andres expressed disappointment that parents were not more considerate of the no-through traffic rule, as it is for the protection of students. The majority of violations were committed by parents dropping off their children at school.
Police Chief Inspector Marco Gonnermann noted that bicycles used by students are significantly more roadworthy than they were 10 years ago. However, he urged parents to send their children to school with roadworthy bicycles to prevent accidents.
The increased frequency of traffic controls is emphasized as important for child safety. The city of Offenbach plans to implement more frequent traffic controls, with both the police and the Ordnungsamt conducting these checks. First Mayor Holger Dechert praised the cooperation between the two parties.
Head of Department Karin Eisenhauer announced that traffic controls will occur more frequently in the future. The no-through traffic rule on Breslauer Street is in effect mornings between 7 and 9 am. Some children were observed without functioning lighting on their bicycles, highlighting the need for these increased controls.
The aim of these traffic controls is to increase the safety of students during the dark season, ensuring the safety of children as they travel to and from school.
