Toyota Motor Corporation's Basketball Star Naho Miyoshi Misses Out on FIBA World Cup 2018
Naho Miyoshi, a 26-year-old member of Toyota Motor Corporation's women's basketball team, the Antelopes, has not made the final selection for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018. Despite this setback, Miyoshi remains determined and focused on her future dreams.
Miyoshi's basketball journey began in elementary school, where she was overweight. She turned to basketball as a means to improve her health and soon found a passion for the sport. Her dedication paid off, and she was given the court name "Sun" in the first year of her working life.
Since joining the Antelopes in 2016, Miyoshi has been a consistent force on the team, serving as the point guard and team captain since 2017. Her leadership style involves communicating with the team as much as possible and maintaining a positive mental attitude.
The Antelopes, with Miyoshi at the helm, have enjoyed considerable success. They won the national championship for the first time in 2013 and finished third in the last W League season (2018-2019). The team's mascot is "Antenowa."
Miyoshi's journey with the Antelopes has not been without challenges. In her sixth grade, she suffered a major injury to the anterior cruciate ligament during a practice session, which kept her out of the game for a year. However, she persevered and continued to support her team from the sidelines during that difficult time.
Miyoshi's move to the Antelopes also presented a new challenge: winning a place on the Japan national team. Despite being selected as a candidate for the national team after her move to the Antelopes, she was not selected for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018. However, she remains hopeful and her future dream is to play at Tokyo 2020.
In addition to her role on the court, Miyoshi also gives basketball coaching classes to children to spread the joys of basketball and raise the profile of women's basketball. She is a role model both on and off the court.
The Antelopes' home base is Aoi Gym in Nagoya City. Other notable players who played with Miyoshi on the Japanese women's basketball team of Toyota Motor Corporation when they won the W League championship in 2013 included Ramu Tokashiki and Mai Yamamoto.
Miyoshi continues to evolve her game, absorbing the special skills of other players to improve her form. She is a testament to the power of determination, resilience, and a positive attitude. Despite missing out on the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018, Miyoshi remains a shining star in the world of Japanese women's basketball.
