In an incident that transpired yesterday evening, a 26-year-old resident of Braunschweig was apprehended by the local police following an attempted theft and assault on a police officer.

The incident occurred near Braunschweig's central station at 5:45 PM on 08.18.25. According to the Polizei Braunschweig, who transmitted the news via news aktuell, the suspect fled the scene on a public bus after attempting to steal a bag from an elderly woman. A witness pursued the man and alerted the police, who located him at John F. Kennedy Square and escorted him off the bus.

During the confrontation, the suspect attacked a 32-year-old police officer, causing injuries that resulted in a fracture of a hand bone. The officer is currently unfit for duty. The suspect was subdued and handcuffed by the police.
