Attending IAA 2025 for the Eighth Time: Here's Why I'm Keen on Returning to the Auto Showcase
The IAA Mobility, one of the world's most significant mobility shows, is once again set to take centre stage in Munich. This year's event, marking its third edition, promises to be an exciting spectacle, with a plethora of automotive giants showcasing their latest innovations.
Among the highlights are the anticipated debuts of two German electric vehicles: the BMW iX3 and the Mercedes GLC with EQ technology. The BMW iX3, the first vehicle built on the "Neue Klasse" technology platform, is expected to offer a range of up to 800 kilometers and can be charged at fast-charging stations with up to 400 kW. On the other hand, the Mercedes GLC with EQ technology is a compact electric car in SUV format, boasting a high range of up to 700 kilometers and fast-charging capabilities of up to 320 kW.
Chinese conglomerate GAC (Guangzhou Automobile Group) is making a significant presence at the event, with more than a hundred Chinese companies showcasing their latest innovations. GAC is attempting to make a name for itself in Europe with its Aion brand and two electric compact models, the Aion UT and Aion V. Both models are expected to be available in Germany next year, with ranges of up to 430 km and 420 km respectively.
South Korean manufacturer Kia is also a significant player at IAA Mobility, unveiling several new vehicles. The Kia EV4 has a range of up to 630 km, while the Kia EV5 has a range of 530 km, and the PV5 has a range of 400 km. No range information was provided for the EV2, a small SUV concept vehicle.
The Spanish VW brand Cupra will also be present, showcasing a new concept car, the Tindaya. The Tindaya is intended to serve as a design ambassador for Cupra's new design language and is expected to further differentiate it from Seat.
Volkswagen will present two premieres at IAA Mobility: the VW ID.2 X and the new VW T-Roc. The VW ID.2 X is an electric SUV that will slot in size-wise between the VW Polo and the VW T-Cross, with a likely range of around 400 kilometers. The new VW T-Roc, the second generation of the compact SUV first introduced in 2017, is also set to make an appearance.
Škoda, another prominent auto brand, will unveil the Vision O at IAA Mobility, which is a preview of a future electric estate car planned to be added to Škoda's portfolio. Moreover, Škoda presented a concept vehicle, the SUV Epiq01, for the first time as a physical concept car at the IAA Mobility 2025.
The IAA Mobility event is not only a platform for established brands but also a launchpad for newcomers. This year, the Spanish VW brand Cupra and the Czech brand Škoda are debuting new concept cars, signalling their commitment to innovation and sustainability in the automotive industry.
With such a diverse and exciting lineup, IAA Mobility 2025 promises to be an unmissable event for anyone interested in the future of mobility.
