Audi Unveils Electric Sports Car Concept C, Hints at 2027 Release

Audi has taken the wraps off its latest concept car, the Concept C, an all-electric two-seater sports car that previews the German automaker's future design direction.

The Concept C, unveiled in 2025, is positioned somewhere between Audi's TT and R8 models in terms of segment. Audi's new head of design, Massimo Frascella, has stated that the production version of the Concept C will look almost exactly the same as the concept car when it launches in 2027.

One of the boldest elements to make it into production from the Concept C is the new upright grille design, which harks back to the earliest Audi models, as well as the Auto Union Type C racing car, and the C6-generation Audi A6 from 2004. Audi CEO Gernot Döllner has confirmed that the production model will more prominently showcase Audi's four-ring logo while also housing forward-looking technology including ADAS cameras and sensors.

The Concept C's design is inspired by the 1936 Auto Union Type C, with a mid-engined style and a retractable hardtop, a first for an Audi roadster. The car also introduces Audi's new light signature with four horizontally arranged elements in each headlight and rear light.

The interior of the Concept C features strong architectural surfaces and clear geometric forms, with physical controls manufactured from anodised aluminium. The interior uses "shy technology" with a foldable center display. The steering wheel of the Concept C features haptic elements.

The Concept C shares its underpinnings with the next-gen Porsche 718 Cayman/Boxster. Audi is understood to be working on a third-generation of the R8 that will use a 670-plus kilowatt V8 plug-in hybrid system shared with the Lamborghini Temerario. However, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner has ruled out the use of the TT name for the production version of the Concept C.

The Concept C's new grille design is described as "a progressive interpretation of Audi's legacy." The production model of the Audi Concept C electric sports car is planned to be released in two years from its official concept presentation, implying around 2027.
