Audi's new electric A6 e-tron model takes aim at the BMW i5 and Mercedes EQE in the luxury electric vehicle market.

The German automobile manufacturer, Audi, has announced that its latest electric offerings, the Audi A6 e-tron and S6 e-tron Sportback and Avant, will be available in the UK from 2 September.

The Audi A6 e-tron, equipped with rear-wheel drive and a 94.9kWh battery, delivers 362bhp and accelerates from 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds. The regular A6 e-tron is designed with the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture and features an 800V electrical system.

For those seeking more power, the S6 e-tron version of the Audi A6 offers an additional motor at the front, delivering 496bhp and a 0-62mph time of 3.9 seconds with launch control.

Audi's strategy involves rolling out new EVs to persuade buyers to switch to electric vehicles. The company's electric vehicles, including the A6 e-tron, are designed with the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture.

The Audi A6 e-tron Sportback boasts a range of 466 miles, while the Avant version offers a slightly shorter range of 447 miles. Both models are expected to have a starting price over £60k.

The Audi e-tron electric SUV, first showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in March, has already entered production. Audi's move into the electric vehicle market comes at a time when the great car-buying public's preference for high-riding cars and the added practicality of extra height for battery packs has influenced the trend towards electric vehicles.

Interestingly, Audi's entry into the small electric estate car market is marked by the Audi A6 Avant e-Tron Concept, which was revealed earlier. Audi is planning to deliver an electric A6 Avant by 2024.

The new electric Audi A6 e-tron and A6 e-tron Avant are set to be unveiled on 31 July 2024. The development of these models was led by the Audi design team, including exterior designers Sascha Heyde and Wolf Seebers, who translated the A6 e-tron design from concept vehicles to production models.
