Aug 26 Transmission Shift: Cable TV Frequency Change in Hürth and Surroundings: Vodafone

Vodafone, one of Germany's leading communication conglomerates, has announced significant changes to its cable TV network and ambitious plans for a greener future.

Starting August 26-27, Vodafone will be implementing a technical switch that will affect various locations across Germany, including Bergheim, Bornheim, Brühl, and many more. This switch will simplify future searches for TV programs with the introduction of the NorDig standard and the NorDig-LCN standard for automatic channel sorting.

As a result, many TV channels and radio programs will receive new frequencies in the cable network. To ensure a smooth transition, Vodafone is informing its customers through letter, email, and poster notifications. The company recommends that customers do not disconnect their receiving devices and the cable router from the power grid at the time of the switch.

Vodafone aims to be carbon neutral by 2025 and net-zero emissions by 2040. Today, the company already covers 100% of its power consumption by renewable energies. This green initiative is part of Vodafone's broader mission to drive forward infrastructure expansion in Germany, reaching two-thirds of all German households with gigabit speed in its nationwide cable-fiber optic network.

In addition to the technical switch, Vodafone is optimizing the cable network at the regional technical site for cable TV in Hürth. The company operates two large transmission centers for distributing the TV signal throughout Germany, located in Frankfurt-Röderheim and Kerpen near Cologne.

After the switch, a channel search will be required for all receiving devices. Modern receiving devices will find the channels automatically, while older devices may require a manual search. Vodafone will use the modern video compression method H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) for transmitting SD channels in the future.

For customers experiencing issues or seeking further information, a service page with assistance is available online. A check should be done in the morning after the switch to ensure all channels are still being received as before.

With these changes, Vodafone continues to innovate and drive progress in the communication industry while working towards a more sustainable future.
