Augsburg Suffers Double Loss of Bona Fide Icons
=====================================================================================
In the heart of Fuggerstadt, sorrow has taken root as we bid farewell to two beloved figures. "Magic Rico," a popular entertainer, and Josef "Joe" Ittner, a bridge builder between Germany and America, have left indelible marks on our community.
First, let us remember "Magic Rico," whose real name was Rico Strauss. Born in Neudorf-Herrlich, Sudeten German, on September 21, 1925, Strauss captivated the people of Augsburg for many years. His magic cards, a signature touch, can still be found stuck to the ceilings all over the city and its surroundings.
"Magic Rico" was almost inseparable from many aspects of the Fuggerstadt, leaving a deep sorrow behind at his club "Die Königstreuen." Unforgettable are all the events where he enchanted the AUGSBURG JOURNAL team and its guests with his magical charm. Beyond his performances, "Magic Rico" was not just an ordinary bath guest; he ensured order and acted as a spokesperson for the FKK community when necessary.
Josef Ittner, on the other hand, was a bridge builder between Germany and America. Ittner, who avoided the Wehrmacht by joining the merchant navy, found a new home with the Americans after the war. He served in the "Labor Service" as a roundsman before Americanizing his first name and traveling to the USA several times.
Ittner, who passed away on July 30, 2025, just before his 100th birthday, will be particularly remembered by the new America House. As an eyewitness, Ittner's stories and experiences will undoubtedly enrich the lives of those who visit the new establishment.
As we remember these two pillars of our community, we would like to remind our readers to check their inbox or spam folder to confirm their subscription. In exciting news, a new magazine is set to be published, and we want to ensure that you don't miss out on the exclusive content that will be published before anyone else.
Rest in peace, "Magic Rico" and Josef Ittner. Your legacies will live on in the hearts of the people of Augsburg.
