"Australia sets a new record by triumphing massively over South Africa with a three-ton margin"
In a stunning display of batting prowess, the Australian cricket team posted their highest One Day International (ODI) total on home soil, scoring an impressive 431-2 during their match against South Africa.
Openers Aaron Finch and David Warner made an aggressive start, scoring 86 after the 10-over powerplay. Finch was unbeaten on 50, while Warner scored 142 off 103 balls. Their 250-run partnership was Australia's highest ever opening partnership against the Proteas.
Alex Carey, coming in at number three, continued the onslaught, scoring 118 not out. This marked the first time Australia's top three have all scored centuries in a single match. Only Glenn Maxwell has scored a faster hundred for Australia.
Steve Smith, who joined Carey, also made a significant contribution, scoring 100 off 106 balls. Their centuries were punctuated by 18 sixes, a record at home.
On the other hand, South Africa's chase started badly, losing four wickets for 50 inside nine overs. Keshav Maharaj dismissed Head and Brevis, and Spinner Cooper Connolly cleaned up the tail, taking an impressive 5-22.
Sean Abbott accounted for Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma, while Xavier Bartlett took care of Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs. Dewald Brevis produced some fireworks in his 49 before being caught by Green.
The South African team, who rested quicks Nandre Burger and Lungi Ngidi, found their second-string attack outplayed by the strong Australian batting line-up.
This thrilling victory for Australia comes as a boost to their preparations for the upcoming ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League matches.
