Australia unveils team for New Zealand T20 matches: Cummins missing, all-rounders make comeback

The Australian cricket team has announced a 14-member squad for their T20I series against New Zealand, which is set to begin in October. The squad includes several familiar faces, with some returning players making a comeback after a hiatus.

Mitchell Marsh will captain the squad, with Marcus Stoinis returning to the Australia team for the first time since November last year. Stoinis had called time on his ODI career in February before the Champions Trophy. However, he has been in fine form recently, with two runner-up finishes in three global franchise T20 leagues since then.

Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Tim David, Ben Dwarshuis, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Matt Kuhnemann, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Owen, Matthew Short, Stoinis, and Adam Zampa were already part of the squad announced for the T20I series against New Zealand.

Unfortunately, seamer Nathan Ellis is unavailable due to paternity leave. Mitch Owen returns to the squad after missing the final T20I against South Africa and the subsequent ODI series against them due to a concussion. Bartlett was Australia's leading wicket-taker among pacers in the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa.

Short suffered a quad injury, which ruled him out of Australia's Champions Trophy semi-final against India and hasn't played an international match since then. He returns to the squad after missing the West Indies series in July due to a side strain sustained in training.

Pat Cummins will miss the T20I series against New Zealand due to lumbar bone stress. Green has prioritized playing the early rounds of the Sheffield Shield for Western Australia, and Alex Carey, Aaron Hardie, and Cameron Green have been left out of the Australia T20 squad v New Zealand.

The updated Australia T20 squad v New Zealand includes Mitchell Marsh (c), Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Tim David, Ben Dwarshuis, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Matt Kuhnemann, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Owen, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis, and Adam Zampa.

The Australian T20 squad for the tour against New Zealand in October promises an exciting combination of youth and experience. Fans are eagerly awaiting the series, with Marsh and Stoinis' return adding a fresh dynamic to the team. The series is set to commence on the 20th of October, with the first match taking place in Perth.
