Authorities Accuse Commission of Unethical Practices
In March 2018, the Brooklyn Academy of Music premiered a unique concert titled "Cellular Songs: Concert Version", which featured the protagonists of Meredith Monk's acclaimed Vocal Ensemble. Now, the Approximation Festival is set to bring a similar level of innovation to Tanzhaus NRW.
Meredith Monk, an American composer, singer, director, choreographer, and filmmaker, will present her new work "Cellular Songs: Concert Version" at the festival on February 7th and 8th. According to the "Financial Times", this performance is a "deeply moving meditation on the nature of the biological cell as a metaphor for human society". Throughout the performance, shifting multidimensional musical forms evoke associations with organic processes such as layering, replication, division, and mutation.
Monk's performance is not the only highlight of the festival. On February 6th at 20:30, the festival will feature a performance by Danish guitarist Rolf Hansen and British pianist Sarah Nicolls. Sarah Nicolls will also present her self-built Inside-Out Piano in concert and in a talk during the festival. This extraordinary instrument allows the audience to visually track the techniques of manipulated and variously equipped strings.
Jimi Tenor, a Finnish multi-instrumentalist, seems to be the perfect candidate for the Approximation Festival. Tenor is known for his eclectic style that blends jazz, electronic, and funk influences. His career includes numerous albums and collaborations since the early 1990s, establishing him as a versatile and innovative artist often performing with a variety of instruments and electronic setups. He is scheduled to perform on February 8th at 10:30 PM in the Salon.
Tenor's career includes a notable indie hit in the mid-1990s with "Take me Baby". His upcoming performance at the Approximation Festival promises to be an exciting blend of his diverse musical talents.
Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to experience the innovative music of Meredith Monk, Rolf Hansen, Sarah Nicolls, and Jimi Tenor at the Approximation Festival.
