Authorities Alert Public About Prevalent Deceptions

In recent times, several districts in Germany have been plagued by a concerning trend of scams involving fake criminal police officers. The latest warnings have come from the police departments in Regensburg, Eichstätt, and Kirchberg, underscoring the importance of vigilance among seniors in these areas.

The scams, which share similarities, have seen fraudsters posing as hospital staff and pavement cleaners, attempting to swindle money from unsuspecting victims. In Eichstätt, the district police have issued a warning about these scams, but have not specified the number of residents affected or the measures they are taking to combat them.

In Kirchberg, a 77-year-old was scammed by individuals posing as pavement cleaners, who demanded a four-digit sum, which is excessive for this service. The police have stated that this demanded sum is likely part of a scam. In Kösching, the scammers are calling and warning about burglars targeting the person being called.

The city currently affected by these frauds is not explicitly named, but a prominent case involving a former mayor occurred in Bremen. There are also reported cases involving police and cybercrime units in Nürnberg and Berlin, but the precise city for the current fake criminal police scams is not directly confirmed.

In Regensburg, there has been an increase in cases of seniors being contacted by individuals pretending to be hospital staff. The police did not specify the number of seniors affected, nor did they provide information about the identity or whereabouts of the fraudsters.

The police advise ending the conversation and calling 110 if there is doubt about the authenticity of the call. They urge increased vigilance regarding these scams, emphasising the importance of not providing personal or financial information to unknown callers. Stay safe, and remember, if it seems too good to be true, or too scary to be real, it probably is.
