Authorities reach accord on financing for land development projects
In a significant announcement, Minister President Anke Rehlinger (SPD) of Saarland has revealed plans for a new swimming pool program, funded jointly by the state and municipalities. The program, unveiled following a meeting with municipal leaders, will see an additional €113.5 million invested in aquatic facilities across the region.
This funding is separate from the €1.1791 billion euros allocation announced earlier, which will see 44 million euros reserved for federal-topped urban development funding and the remaining 40% (approximately €483.6 million) going to the state, while 60% (approximately €686.4 million) will be allocated to the municipalities.
The swimming pool program funding does not affect these previous allocations. It is an additional investment, bringing an extra €22 million in federal funds into the state.
Minister President Rehlinger made this announcement in collaboration with Ulli Meyer, President of the German Association of Towns and Municipalities, and Patrik Lauer, Chairman of the Association of German Counties.
In October, Minister President Rehlinger will present a government declaration in the Saarland state parliament, discussing investments throughout Saarland. The decree for this government statement was issued by Rehlinger herself.
While no further specific details about the source or the exact distribution of the swimming pool program funding were provided, the announcement marks a significant step towards improving aquatic facilities in Saarland.
