Automakers VW, BMW, and Mercedes unveil electric vehicles at the IAA Auto Show in Munich.
The automotive industry is gearing up for the IAA Mobility Show in Munich, Germany, set to take place in September 2025. This year's event promises to be a showcase of innovation and sustainability, with several manufacturers unveiling electric vehicles and showcasing their commitment to using recycled and upcycled materials.
Opel will make a significant impact at the show with the presentation of the Opel Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo as an electric hot hatch concept. This race-inspired vehicle is expected to deliver at least 700 PS, with a more powerful 800 PS variant also on offer. The concept car will make its debut in the Gran Turismo racing simulator game this year and will be available in the Gran Turismo 7 racing video game in autumn 2025.
Renault will also be present at the show, revealing the sixth generation of the Clio hatch. Leapmotor, a company with a 20% stake owned by Stellantis, will showcase the electric B05 small car.
Another electric vehicle that is sure to draw attention is the Polestar 5 sedan, produced by Geely-owned Polestar. With up to 900 horsepower and sub 30-minute charging times, this vehicle is set to make a strong impression.
BMW will unveil the iX3 "Neue Klasse" at the show on September 8. The iX3 is the first production model of the Neue Klasse architecture and will emphasise sustainability, using recycled and upcycled materials.
Volkswagen will present the near-production version of its ID2 at the show. The ID2's design is inspired by the classical shape of early Golf models. Hyundai will showcase the Ioniq 2 small SUV, while Kia will present the EV2, based on similar architecture.
Cupra, Volkswagen Group's Spanish offshoot, will showcase its Raval electric hatchback. Audi will not present a new production car at the show but will show a two-seat concept car.
Mercedes-Benz will debut the next generation of its GLC at the show. The new GLC will include an EV version and use an upgraded 800-Volt electric architecture. Volvo will show its ES90 sedan, offering up to 435 miles of electric range and a 10-80% charge in 20 minutes.
BYD will attempt to make a mark in European car culture by delivering a station wagon version of the Seal 06 midsizer at the show. The company aims to compete with the Volkswagen Passat wagon.
Opel will also preview its next-generation Corsa at the show. BMW is focusing on sustainability and the use of recycled and upcycled materials in the iX3.
Finally, it's worth noting that the new GLC has overtaken the C-Class as Mercedes-Benz's best-selling model. The IAA Mobility Show in Munich is shaping up to be an exciting event, showcasing the latest developments in the automotive industry.
