Autumn Concert Performance by Orchestra Initiative Ingolstadt

On Sunday, November 24, 2024, at 5:00 PM, the Ingolstadt Orchestra Initiative will be hosting an enchanting musical event in the Mirror Hall of the Kolpinghaus. Under the motto "Breakthrough to new sounds", the amateur ensemble, led by conductor Johanna Kurz, will perform a captivating programme dedicated to Italian music.

The concert will showcase a masterpiece of festive-baroque music with George Frideric Handel's "Concerto in B-flat major for harp and string orchestra". The harp, an instrument that played an important role in Italian instrumental music, gives Handel's concerto a special lyrical grace. The event will feature two solo compositions, with Beate Fürbacher on the harp and Bernd Metzler on the guitar.

The programme will also include Antonio Vivaldi's "Concerto in D major for guitar and string orchestra". Known for its playfulness and pulsating vitality, the outer movements will captivate the audience, while the slow middle movement will radiate the tranquility of a bright summer day.

The performance of Ottorino Respighi's "Antiche danze ed arie per liuto" will be a form of musical historicism, bridging the gap of centuries and allowing the sounds of old times to appear as distant as they are familiar. The work, a revival of lute music from the 16th and 17th centuries, has been transcribed into three suites for orchestra.

Pietro Mascagni's "Cavalleria rusticana" will also be performed. This opera tells a tale of jealousy with a fatal outcome, and the symphonic intermezzo at the beginning depicts the peaceful singing of a congregation during a visit to the Easter Mass. The German title of "Cavalleria rusticana" is "Sicilian Vespers".

The concert will conclude with Maria Grimani's opera "Pallade e Marte". An Italian composer who worked at the Viennese court, Grimani's work is a musical dialogue for two voices and orchestra, premiered on November 4, 1713. The introductory sinfonia of "Pallade e Marte" will also be performed in the concert.

For those who appreciate classical music, this event promises to be an unforgettable experience. Don't miss out on this opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Italian music.
