Teledyne Systems' ACES System Wins at Crystal Cabin Awards 2023

The aviation industry is making significant strides towards sustainability, connectivity, and comfort, and the recent Crystal Cabin Awards 2023 are a testament to this progress. Held at the Aircraft Interiors Expo, the awards recognised innovative products and concepts in aircraft cabin equipment.

The event, which honours excellence in various categories, including Health & Safety, IFEC & Digital Services, Sustainable Cabin, Cabin Concepts, Passenger Comfort, Cabin Systems, Materials and Components, and University, celebrated the best of the best in the industry.

Teledyne Systems' ACES (Aircraft Cabin Environment Sensing) system, which monitors air quality in the cabin and detects various air particles, won in the Health & Safety category. This system is designed to ensure a safer and healthier flying experience for passengers.

In the Sustainable Cabin category, Lantal Textiles' Deep Dyed Carpet innovation took the prize. This carpet saves water and waste in production, reduces CO2 emissions during flight, and is an ultra-light carpet, making it a significant step towards a more eco-friendly cabin.

Air New Zealand's Skynest, a sleeping quarters concept designed to offer more comfort to economy-class passengers on long-haul flights, won in the Cabin Concepts category. These sleeping quarters will be available on flights to North America from 2024.

Thales Avionics' on-board data center, which offers up to ten times higher capacity than existing IFE servers and is modular and expandable, won in the Cabin Systems, Materials and Components category.

Collins Aerospace's Intelisence system, which uses sensors, cameras, and AI technologies to predict customer needs, won in the Passenger Comfort category.

The new Crystal Cabin Awards trophy, made using a polymer-based process from recycled materials, underscores the development of the aviation industry towards a more sustainable cabin.

Two additional sustainable products were recognised in addition to the previously mentioned winners. Delft University of Technology won in the University category with Lightweight Aircraft Seating, a 3D-printed seat cushion made from sustainable fibers that supports the body and saves weight during flight.

The LEO Connectivity Solution by Airfi and Iridium won the Crystal Cabin Award in the IFEC and Digital Services category, enabling communication during flights via WhatsApp or iMessage.

Unfortunately, no company won the 2023 Crystal Cabin Award in the category "Cabin Systems, Materials and Components."

The Crystal Cabin Awards aim to enhance passenger safety, well-being, and resource planning while reducing waste and maintenance costs. By recognising these innovative ideas, the awards are making flying more sustainable, connected, and comfortable for all. The winners of the Crystal Cabin Awards 2023 were announced on June 12, 2023. Hamburg, with its numerous innovative projects, is making a name for itself as a leader in sustainable aviation.
