Bad Camberg's readiness predicted for 2029 remains hold
The construction of the B8 bypass in Bad Camberg, Erbach, and Wuerges, a project managed by Hessen Mobil, is facing delays and increased costs due to more extensive construction requirements.
Originally announced for completion by the end of 2029, the bypass is now expected to take longer due to additional challenges such as slope stabilization measures, replanning for railway bridges, extended groundwater protection, and more extensive pipeline work.
Hessen Mobil, the organisation responsible for the project, has announced the delay and the additional construction requirements. The construction work, which began in 2021, has proven to be more complex than initially planned, necessitating a recalculation of costs.
The 6.6-kilometer bypass is intended to alleviate traffic in the three towns, where around 12,500 vehicles, including 300 trucks, pass through Bad Camberg daily. The bypass will also include ten bridges, including an eleven-meter bridge over the state road L3030 at Erbach.
One of the most complex aspects of the project is the construction of the Emsbach bridges and the connection to the existing B8 route. Environmental protection measures, such as the renaturation of the Emsbach and the relocation of reptiles, will be implemented for the upcoming sections.
The first section of the bypass, from Erbach towards Wuerges, has already been completed. However, further sections will begin in winter 2025/2026.
The costs for the bypass project are expected to significantly increase beyond the initial budget of 90 million euros. The final costs are currently being recalculated by Hessen Mobil, and specific cost estimates for the completion of the bypass road system for Bad Camberg, Erbach, and Wuerges by the end of 2029 are not yet available.
