Bail has been granted to Imran Khan's relative, Shershah, in the case that occurred on May 9th.
In a significant development, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore has granted bail to Shershah, Imran Khan's nephew and Aleema Khan's son, in the high-profile Jinnah House attack case. The decision comes after Shershah was taken into custody on August 22, a day after his brother Shahrez's arrest.
Both Shershah and Shahrez face charges of allegedly running an anti-state campaign and involvement in the riots that took place in 2023, following the arrest of the PTI founder in a corruption case. The riots included attacks on military and state installations.
Sources told Geo News that both suspects were primarily arrested for their alleged involvement in the Jinnah House attack. Shershah was previously booked in connection with the incident, and it is alleged that he was present with Hassan Niazi at the time of the attack.
The defence lawyer argued that there is no evidence against the suspect and that he is not involved in any riot. During the hearing, the lawyer contended that the challan in the case has not been presented, and the suspect cannot be kept in custody indefinitely. It is not mentioned if any conditions were imposed with the bail.
Shershah faced accusations of arson, vandalism, torching a police van, and running an anti-state digital campaign for months. The specific details about the Jinnah House attack case are not provided in this paragraph.
Interestingly, Shahrez, the brother of Shershah, also secured bail in a case related to the May 9 violence. The escape of Shershah to London took place in 1989, where he remained for nearly two years.
The Jinnah House incident was one of the most high-profile cases arising from the May 9 riots that occurred across the country. The case is expected to continue, with further hearings and developments to come.
