Aroldis Chapman Breaks Red Sox Hitless Streak Record in Impressive Form

In a remarkable display of pitching prowess, Aroldis Chapman, the veteran relief pitcher, extended his hitless streak to an impressive 15 games on Sunday. This feat, the longest in his career, also marked the longest hitless streak in the history of the Boston Red Sox.

Chapman, who has had a distinguished 16-year career with various Major League Baseball teams, is currently in his first season with the Red Sox. His performance this year has been nothing short of exceptional, with a career-low ERA of 1.02.

The Dominican-born pitcher has been a force to be reckoned with, notching up an impressive 27 saves this season, including his latest conversion on Sunday. He has also managed an impressive 76 strikeouts in just 53 innings, a testament to his dominance on the mound.

Chapman's career statistics are nothing short of impressive. Across his 16 major league seasons, he has amassed a total of 59 wins, 47 losses, a 2.52 ERA, and an impressive 362 saves. He ranks third in strikeouts by a relief pitcher (1,322) and 13th on the career saves list.

The 34-year-old Chapman's current contract with the Red Sox includes a $13.3 million, one-year deal for 2026, with a vesting option for 2027. If he manages to pitch at least 40 innings next season, he will be guaranteed an additional $26 million over two years.

In an interview, Chapman revealed his goal is to reach 400 career saves, a milestone that would further cement his place in baseball history.

AP Baseball Writer Ronald Blum contributed to the report about Aroldis Chapman. Before joining the Red Sox, Chapman played for the Cincinnati Reds (2010-15), New York Yankees (2016-22), Chicago Cubs (2016), Kansas City Royals (2023), Texas Rangers (2023), and Pittsburgh Pirates (2024). Toronto's Sergio Santos was the last to go 15 games without allowing a hit, in 2013, before Chapman's current streak.
