The Bayer bus company from Ehingen, Germany, is expanding its fleet with five Mercedes-Benz eCitaro buses. This move is a part of the company's commitment to sustainable transport, as expressed by Bayer's managing partner, Sonja Bayer.

The eCitaro buses, 12 metres long, boast a seating capacity for 36 passengers. Each of the two 18-metre-long articulated buses delivered to Bayer has 48 passenger seats and two folding seats, providing ample space for passengers.

These buses are equipped with numerous driver assistance systems to ensure the highest possible level of passenger safety. The Frontguard Assist system, for instance, warns of potential collisions with unprotected road users. The environmentally-friendly drive power of the eCitaro buses is provided by a package of six batteries from the third NMC3 lithium-ion generation with a total capacity of 589 kWh.

The Bayer buses operate in the area around Ehingen, serving lines of the Donau-Iller-Nahverkehrsgesellschaft as well as Neckar-Alb-Donau GmbH. This expansion of the fleet is set to improve the regional public transport network around Ehingen, close to Ulm and Neu-Ulm in Baden-WΓΌrttemberg, Germany.

Meanwhile, the CiTTi Awards, a significant event for the UK's transportation sector, is recognising achievements and innovations in sustainable transport planning. The fourth annual CiTTi Awards will take place on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. More information about the event can be found at www.cittiawards.co.uk.

Bayer's use of eCitaro buses is a testament to their dedication to sustainable transport, aligning with the values of the CiTTi Awards. It marks an exciting step forward in the company's journey towards a greener future in public transport.
