Bayern Munich Chairman Hoeneß anticipates support from football sheikhs and expects his team to emerge victorious
FC Bayern Munich is set to permanently acquire Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea for a total fee of around 80 million euros, according to club president Uli Hoeneß. The deal includes an initial loan fee of about 13 million euros and a purchase obligation clause, which depends on conditions, valued at approximately 65-80 million euros.
Jackson, who was loaned from Chelsea, will have to play 40 games from the start to trigger the purchase obligation. Hoeneß has been tight-lipped about the contract extension for the loan player.
The transfer of Jackson is one of several moves made by Bayern this summer. The Bavarian giants have also signed Luis Díaz, Jonathan Tah, and Tom Bischof permanently. However, Hoeneß expressed disappointment in the club's failed attempts to sign German national players Florian Wirtz and Nick Woltemade.
Woltemade ended up moving to England for almost 90 million euros, a sum that Hoeneß had initially offered 55 million for, but Stuttgart demanded 75 million. The reported transfer fee for Wirtz was a staggering 150 million euros, a sum Hoeneß said would never be paid.
Despite these unsuccessful courtships, Hoeneß rates the transfer summer of FC Bayern Munich's sporting leadership as successful. He believes that the club has a strong mix of established professionals and young players, making them the winners of the transfer summer.
Hoeneß has been vocal about the escalating transfer fees in football, comparing it to the Monopoly game. He believes that the most important thing in the transfer business is saying 'no' to these crazy excesses.
In a recent disagreement with Lothar Matthäus regarding the transfer of Nick Woltemade, Hoeneß and Matthäus have since resolved their differences and shaken hands. Hoeneß stated that Bayern cannot compete with football sheikhs from Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.
Despite the challenges, Hoeneß believes that FC Bayern Munich has enough money to make additional transfers in January. He also expects three new additions to the team in November without additional cost, due to the injuries of Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, and Hiroki Ito.
In conclusion, while the transfer of Wirtz and Woltemade did not materialize, Hoeneß believes that the current transfer summer has been successful for FC Bayern Munich. The club has strengthened its squad with the signings of Díaz, Tah, Bischof, and Jackson, and Hoeneß remains optimistic about the future.
