Bayern Munich prepares to welcome Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson on loan, while AC Milan secures the transfer of Christopher Nkunku.

In the summer transfer window of 2025, Chelsea has seen a significant shake-up in its squad. One of the most notable departures is that of Christopher Nkunku, who played a key role in Chelsea's Club World Cup and Conference League triumphs last season. Nkunku has signed a permanent deal with AC Milan for a fee of £36m, moving on after making 62 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 18 goals, and providing 5 assists.

Meanwhile, Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea remains uncertain due to his lack of playing time. Jackson, who joined Chelsea from FC Bayern Munich on loan last season, has struggled for consistent minutes this year. His finishing has come under scrutiny, as he has underperformed his expected goals tally by seven over the past two seasons, converting just 29% of 'big chances'.

Bayern Munich has shown interest in bringing Jackson back to Germany, and it appears that a deal is close. The Bavarian giants will pay an initial £13 million loan fee for Jackson, with an option to buy him from Chelsea for £56.2 million. Jackson was not included in the squad for the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace and the 5-1 win over West Ham, and he has not played for Chelsea since the Club World Cup semi-final win over Fluminense in July.

The transfer sales will help balance the books after UEFA fined Chelsea €31m for breaching financial regulations. In total, Chelsea has raised close to £309m from transfer sales this summer, including add-ons. The club has also spent around £277m on new arrivals, such as Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, who have pushed Nkunku and Jackson further down the pecking order.

As Nkunku and Jackson move on, Chelsea fans will be eager to see how the new signings perform and whether the club can maintain its recent success. The Club World Cup and Conference League triumphs were a high point for the club, and the challenge now will be to build on that success and continue to compete at the highest level.
