The curtain raised on the Women's Bundesliga season at the Allianz Arena, as Bayern Munich took on Bayer Leverkusen in front of a record crowd of 57,762 spectators.

The opening exchanges saw few chances for either team, with Bayern initially struggling to find their rhythm. Leverkusen, under the guidance of coach Roberto Pätzold, showed a secure defence and some offensive flair, particularly from new signing Carlotta Wamser.

After 20 minutes, Ruby Grant had the best chance for Leverkusen, but her effort was thwarted by a strong save from Bayern goalkeeper Ena Mahmutovic. Bayern's striker Lea Schüller had an opportunity of her own in the second minute, but she put the ball wide.

Bayern's new coach José Barcala looked visibly frustrated during the first half, as the team failed to break down Leverkusen's resilient defence. However, the tide turned in the second half.

In the 76th minute, Vanessa Gilles scored the opening goal for Bayern, and just a minute later, Klara Bühl added a second to secure a 2-0 victory for the Munich side. Lilla Turanyi was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty after being pulled by Magdalena Eriksson, but Bayern held on to claim all three points.

The victory marks a successful start to the Women's Bundesliga season for Bayern Munich, who will look to build on this result as they continue their title defence.
