Still clinging onto the bottle for now - Ben Zucker resolute in his decision to continue consuming alcohol
Pop singer Ben Zucker (42) has bravely shared his personal struggle with alcoholism in an interview with German newspaper, Bild. The interview, which took place but did not specify a date, sees Zucker discussing his journey with addiction, its causes, and his ongoing recovery.
Born in UeckermΓΌnde, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and a long-time resident of Berlin, Zucker attributes the root of his addiction to the high demands of his professional life. The COVID-19 pandemic, in particular, took a toll on his mental health, causing him to lose control over his alcohol consumption in 2020.
During the pandemic, Zucker could not see his family and then-girlfriend, a situation that further contributed to his alcohol consumption. His consumption continued for months, but he spent 21 days in a clinic for alcohol detox to regain control.
Though his current alcohol consumption hasn't affected his health yet, Zucker fears it could in the future. He believes that processes of dealing with addiction take time and that he is not yet ready to quit alcohol completely. Zucker still drinks vodka on ice as a reward or when he relaxes, but struggles with control.
Zucker's therapy, which included a group of entrepreneurs, lawyers, and doctors, among others, was worth it, as it helped him understand his relationship with alcohol and the time it takes to deal with addiction. The cancellation of his second arena tour in 2020 also played a part in his increased alcohol consumption.
Despite his ongoing struggle, Zucker is optimistic. He believes that the label of an alcoholic does not equate to a lack of hope. He encourages others in similar situations to seek help and understands the hesitation many people with similar problems have in speaking openly about it.
In a positive turn of events, Zucker has chosen to move to the countryside by the Baltic Sea, having bought and is moving into a renovated house there around March or April 2025. This more relaxed rural life is a departure from his busy days in Berlin, where he grew up.
Zucker's current status regarding quitting alcohol is not specified in the article. However, his bravery in speaking openly about his struggle serves as a reminder that recovery is a journey, not a destination.
