Berlusconi family gains decisive power over ProSiebenSat.1 Media Group

In a significant move, MFE, the media conglomerate controlled by the Berlusconi family, has acquired a 15.7% stake previously held by Czech major shareholder PPF, bringing its total ownership at ProSiebenSat.1 SE to 75.61% of the voting rights. This development marks a milestone in MFE's aim to build a pan-European broadcasting group.

The future direction of ProSiebenSat.1 SE is to focus more on the German audience, as confirmed by the discussions held this week between MFE's CEO, Pier Silvio Berlusconi, and German State Minister for Media, Wolfram Weimer.

For decades, the patriarch Silvio Berlusconi used his media conglomerate to promote his political career and the party he founded, Forza Italia. However, no information was provided about any planned changes to ProSiebenSat.1 SE's focus on news, entertainment, and original content.

Silvio Berlusconi's son met with German State Minister for Media, Wolfram Weimer, this week, and both parties agreed on the importance of editorial independence in their engagement in the German media market. Weimer's spokesperson confirmed that common lines were developed during the meeting.

Editorial independence is of central importance, and it must not be compromised, according to Weimer's statement after the meeting. ProSiebenSat.1 SE plans to produce more news, entertainment, and original content, with jobs to be maintained at the company.

MFE now controls television networks in Italy, Spain, and Germany (ProSiebenSat.1), and the Berlusconi family expects significant savings from the collaboration of their networks. The company also aims to create a European broadcasting entity.

It's worth noting that so far, the Berlusconi children have not entered politics but remain close to the party. No information was provided about any planned changes to ProSiebenSat.1 SE's plans to reduce purchased formats or maintain jobs.

Despite the change in ownership, ProSiebenSat.1 SE remains committed to its mission of providing high-quality entertainment and news content to its audience. The future promises an exciting evolution for the company as it navigates its new partnership and focuses on the German market.
