Fraud Alert: Scammers Posing as Police Officers in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
A warning has been issued by the Police Inspectorate Anklam regarding a scam involving fraudsters posing as police officers in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern region. The scam was reported in both the Vorpommern-Greifswald district and the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte district last weekend.
The scammers, under the pretense of being from the Police Inspectorate Anklam, made calls to elderly residents inquiring about their valuables. They claimed to be investigating gangs of thieves, burglars, or general criminals operating in the respective neighborhoods of the call recipients.
Two victims in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district fell for the scam, losing a total of 24,000 euros. However, two elderly women in the district, on August 15, 2025, recognised the scam and contacted the police, preventing any loss.
In the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte district, cases were reported on August 17, 2025, but no damage occurred. Fraudsters also targeted residents in the Müritz region on the same day.
The calls were made on both August 15 and 17, 2025. It is important to note that the police will never ask for personal information or money over the phone.
