Bihar Education Project Council awards Rs 6,597 crore contract to RailTel

Indian company RailTel Corporation wins contracts totaling 65.97 billion rupees from Bihar Education Project Council, aiming to establish smart classrooms, ICT labs, ISM labs, and provide educational materials throughout Bihar by the year 2026.

RailTel Corporation of India has announced that it has secured contracts worth a substantial Rs 6,597.56 crore from the Bihar Education Project Council (BEPC). These contracts, which are all domestic and do not involve related-party transactions, will see RailTel outfitting various schools in Bihar with smart classrooms, ICT labs, ISM labs, and teaching and learning material for classes I to V.

The contracts, which include five projects in total, are expected to be completed by March 31, 2026. However, the ISM Labs project, which is separate from the previously mentioned projects, is scheduled for completion by December 31, 2025.

The ISM Labs project, valued at an additional Rs 59.76 crore, involves the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the labs. This project is not mentioned in the list of projects expected to be completed by March 31, 2026.

The smart classrooms will be installed across government secondary and senior secondary schools, while the ICT labs will be installed across schools in Bihar. RailTel will also undertake an Rs 442 crore project for the installation of ICT labs across the state.

One of the significant projects involves the supply of teaching and learning material for classes I to V across government schools in Bihar, worth Rs 899.19 crore. RailTel has also bagged a Rs 2,621.43 crore order for installing smart classrooms in government middle schools.

The news of these order wins has positively impacted the shares of RailTel Corporation of India. On the day of announcing all its order wins, the shares opened 4.8% higher than the previous close. Over the past six months, the stock of RailTel Corporation of India has gained 22.97%.

The projects will benefit schools in Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, and Darbhanga in Bihar, aiming to modernise and improve the quality of education in the state. The projects are expected to transform the learning environment for students, providing them with the necessary tools to excel in their studies.
