Bihar Elections: Is the Muslim Community Aware of Trusting the NDA Given the Waqf Law? Will the SIR Impact Damage Nitish Kumar's Government's Reputation? JDU Offers Commentary

As the Assembly Elections in Bihar draw near, the political landscape is experiencing a significant shift, with a growing demand for accountability and development.

The JD-U Spokesperson, Naval Sharma, has highlighted the increasing support among Muslim groups in Bihar for the amendment of the Waqf Act. He emphasized that the original intent of the Waqf was to empower poor Muslims and support education for their children. The new Waqf law, according to Sharma, is expected to benefit this demographic.

In a recent statement, Sharma also criticized the opposition's claims of electoral fraud in the SIR controversy. He denied allegations of misinforming Muslim minorities regarding the Waqf Amendment Bill and emphasized the significant achievements made by Nitish Kumar in promoting madrasas, appointing female Muslim community representatives, improving education and registration, providing pensions and land rights, and overseeing beautification projects.

The ECI has repeatedly challenged Rahul Gandhi to produce a living voter whose name has been removed from the electoral list. Gandhi has been asked to substantiate his claims of fraud in the SIR controversy but has not appeared with 30 MPs as requested.

The Waqf, a permanent dedication of property for religious, pious, or charitable purposes recognized by Muslim Law, plays a crucial role in Bihar. As of September 2024, the Bihar State (Sunni) Waqf Board manages 6866 properties covering an area of 169,344.82 acres, while the Bihar State (Shia) Waqf Board manages 1750 properties covering an area of 29,009.52 acres.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 aims to boost transparency, strengthen management, and protect Waqf assets. India aims to regulate and protect Waqf properties, which have religious, social, and economic significance.

The coming polls could decide who sits on the throne and potentially shift the direction Bihar is heading in the years to come. As the political landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how the various parties will navigate these complex issues and appeal to the diverse population of Bihar.
