Bike riders sustain minor injuries in bicycle collision involving pedal-assist electric bikes

In the early hours of September 3, two traffic accidents involving cyclists occurred in the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis. The incidents took place in Troisdorf and Sankt Augustin-Mülldorf.

The first accident happened at 07:40 AM on Friedrichstraße in Troisdorf-Spich. A 51-year-old cyclist, riding a Pedelec, collided with a car driven by a 40-year-old resident of Troisdorf. The cyclist fell onto the car's hood and was taken to the hospital for further treatment. The car driver remained unharmed.

The total damage was estimated at a mid-four-figure amount in euros. The 35-year-old cyclist was slightly injured and also taken to the hospital. The police departments of Rhein-Sieg-Kreis published a press release about the incident in St. Augustin and Troisdorf.

In the second accident, which occurred at 09:45 AM in Sankt Augustin-Mülldorf on Meerstraße, a 20-year-old driver from Siegburg collided with a cyclist. The cyclist, a man from Hennef, was riding his Pedelec on the wrong side of the bike path. The 20-year-old driver was unharmed, but the man from Hennef was slightly injured.

In both accidents, police officers filed criminal charges for suspected negligent bodily harm in a traffic accident. The total damage in the second accident was estimated at a mid-four-figure amount in euros. The man from Hennef is likely to be fined for riding a bike path in the wrong direction.
