Biking Competition: Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race Happening in 2025

The 10th edition of the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, a prestigious one-day contest in the WorldTour category, took place on February 2, 2025. This significant race marked the second event on the calendar for the men's WorldTour.

The race commenced and concluded at the Geelong waterfront, with the route rolling past the Surf Coast and undulating inland farmland hills. The race distance was 183.8km, featuring more than 2,000 metres of elevation gain, including the punchy Challambra climb.

This year, it was Swiss cyclist Mauro Schmid who claimed the victory. Schmid, a member of Team Jayco-AlUla, managed to outpace the competition in a thrilling finish. His team, Team Visma - Lease a Bike, secured the overall win in the race.

Last year, the race was won by Laurence Pithie from Groupama-FDJ. This year, Pithie finished in third place, with Natnael Tesfazion (Lidl-Trek) coming in second. It was a close race, with Aaron Gate finishing in second place in the reduced bunch dash.

The Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, first held in 2015, moved to the WorldTour two years later. This annual event has become a much-anticipated fixture in the cycling calendar, attracting top-tier athletes from around the globe. The race also features a 21km finishing circuit in Geelong, making for an exciting and unpredictable conclusion to the race.

As the first one-day contest at the top tier, the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race continues to set the standard for one-day races in the WorldTour. The 10th edition was no exception, providing an exhilarating display of cycling prowess.
