BMW and MINI to implement enhanced traction control system in their vehicle lineup with the introduction of the i3s system.

BMW is set to revolutionise its driving experience with the introduction of a new traction control system. The innovative technology, currently featured in the BMW i3S, is expected to be integrated into future models across both the BMW and MINI lineups.

The system, designed to improve driving performance across various road conditions, has shown promising results in controlling torque on electric vehicles. BMW has realised that this new technology will also improve driving conditions for Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) cars, including Front-Wheel Drive (FWD), Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD), and All-Wheel Drive (4WD) vehicles, by more effectively controlling slip in tricky conditions.

The BMW i3S, the latest addition to the 'i' range, has already benefited from this new technology. The system calculates its control processes in the drivetrain, making it 50-times quicker than traditional systems. This rapid response time ensures maximum traction during various driving situations, including pulling away, accelerating out of corners, and during Brake Energy Regeneration phases.

The new system is not just limited to the electric vehicles in BMW's portfolio. BMW is introducing new electric vehicles to its lineup, with the BMW i5 expected to make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The BMW i5 is expected to be part of a growing 'i' range, with the company aiming to have 12 BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles) in its lineup by 2025.

The BMW 'i' range, which includes the BMW i3 and i8, has been a significant part of BMW's electric vehicle offerings since their introduction. While the BMW i3 will cease production in July 2022, earlier than planned, the company has confirmed the production of the BMW i8 Roadster. Originally shown as a concept 4 years ago, the BMW i8 Roadster is set to join the 'i' range.

Despite the challenges posed by electric cars, such as all torque being immediately available which can cause problems in slippery and wet conditions, BMW is committed to enhancing the driving experience with advanced software and hardware technology. The new traction control system is a testament to this commitment, promising a safer and more enjoyable driving experience for BMW and MINI drivers alike.
