The Mountain View technology office plays a pivotal role in securing BMW Group's position as a technology and innovation leader. Situated in a key technology hotspot around the world, the office collects local insight, identifies emerging technologies, and works with key partners to envision the future of BMW Group products and customer experience.
Stefan Gerhaeusser returns to a U.S.-based staff role after spending time in various UI/UX and software development roles for BMW in Munich. His initial role at BMW was as an IT specialist for the corporate offices in South Carolina. According to his LinkedIn profile, Gerhaeusser managed a department focused on designing and developing digital experiences, including the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. He joined BMW in 2008.
Claus Dorrer, who previously held the role that Gerhaeusser now has, moves from Mountain View to Munich to take over product development for the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant and other in-car digital technologies. Dorrer's work at BMW spans over nearly three decades and includes various technologies such as driver assistance and digital driver experience systems. He joined BMW in 1996 as a developer and project manager in BMW's research division.
During his tenure as head of the U.S. technology office, Dorrer oversaw several research and innovation projects involving augmented reality, artificial intelligence, e-mobility, battery technology, and more.
The Mountain View technology office is one of several research and development hubs for BMW. Rudolph Bencker, BMW senior vice president of inventions and innovations management, made the statement about the appointment.
The appointment was announced in a company press release on July 30.
