The BMW Group is set to present its first model of the Neue Klasse, the iX3, in Munich later this year. This new electric vehicle (EV) platform, developed entirely by BMW, promises to revolutionise the electric vehicle industry with its advanced technology and innovative features.

According to Mike Reichelt, head of Neue Klasse at the BMW Group, the Neue Klasse is all about more range, faster charging, a new display and control concept, and the intelligence of four super brains. The iX3, as the first model of the Neue Klasse, is no exception.

One of the standout features of the iX3 is its high energy content battery, which, combined with an efficient powertrain and overall vehicle design, can enable up to 800 kilometers per charge. This impressive range is made possible by the iX3's 800-volt architecture, allowing it to add more than 350 kilometers of WLTP range in just ten minutes.

The iX3 also boasts a peak charging power of 400 kW, making it one of the fastest charging EVs on the market. Moreover, the iX3 offers bidirectional charging functions, making it a mobile power bank with up to 3.7 kW discharge power in Europe. This feature allows the iX3 to supply energy to one or more consumers through Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) or become an energy storage solution at home with Vehicle-to-Home (V2H).

In terms of design, the iX3's front closely resembles the 2024 Vision Neue Klasse X concept. The new BMW Panoramic Vision technology, one of the patents submitted by BMW for the development of the Neue Klasse, is also evident in the iX3's design.

The iX3's technology is not limited to its exterior. The vehicle features a new zonalized on-board network, a new electric machine, and a battery management and cell contact system, all patented for the Neue Klasse. The Heart of Joy steering device control functions are also among the patents submitted for the Neue Klasse.

The iX3's technology for Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) sets new standards for integrating the vehicle into the energy market. This feature allows the iX3 to participate in the energy market by storing and supplying energy as needed, contributing to a more sustainable and efficient energy system.

The iX3 will be produced at the new BMW Group plant in Debrecen, Hungary, by the end of the year. BMW will unveil the next iX3 at the IAA Mobility in Munich, offering a glimpse into the future of electric vehicles and the Neue Klasse platform.

Unlike some concept vehicles, the final iX3 will have conventional exterior mirrors, but it is clear that the iX3 is more than just a car. It is a mobile power bank, a participant in the energy market, and a testament to BMW's commitment to innovation and sustainability.
