BMW has made some significant changes to its lineup with the introduction of the new BMW 6 Series Grand Turismo and the confirmation of plans for the 3-Series GT.

The BMW 6 Series Grand Turismo has taken the place of the 5 Series GT, offering a fresh option for those seeking a blend of luxury and practicality. The 6 Series GT range now includes a 620d model, powered by a 187bhp four-cylinder diesel engine. This latest addition to the 6 Series GT range offers an entry-level option for those seeking a more affordable Grand Turismo.

Meanwhile, BMW has confirmed plans for the 3 Series GT, which will be the fifth body style for the 2012 3 Series. The 3-Series GT is expected to have a more upright stance, making it more practical, though it may not win any beauty contests due to its practical design.

The 3-Series GT will be built on a new platform, rather than the current one, and is expected to have engines ranging from a 1.6 litre four-pot turbo to a 3.0 litre turbo inline-six, possibly including a hybrid. BMW first reported making a 3-Series GT back in 2009, and the spy photo of the 3-Series GT suggests it will have a style similar to the 5-Series GT.

The 3-Series GT is not yet available, but is expected to launch at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2012. The design of the 3-Series GT was created by BMW's internal design department, led by the brand's chief designer at the time.

In other news, the BMW M4 GTS has set a new record as the fastest production BMW ever around the Nurburgring, with a time of 7:27.88. The M4 GTS is an extreme version of BMW's M4, featuring a high price tag to match its impressive performance.

Overall, BMW continues to push the boundaries of automotive design and performance, with the 6 Series Grand Turismo and 3-Series GT offering exciting new options for those seeking a blend of luxury, practicality, and style.
