WestJet Expands Fleet with Major Boeing Investment

WestJet, Canada's leading airline, has announced a significant expansion of its fleet with the purchase of 60 Boeing 737-10 jets and 7 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. This investment, which also includes options for an additional 25 737-10 jets and 4 more 787-9 jets, is set to secure WestJet's fleet for the decades ahead.

The new aircraft, known for their efficiency and comfort, are crucial for the growth and renewal of WestJet's fleet. WestJet's CEO, Alexis von Hoensbroech, commented on the purchase, stating it underpins their growth plans and commitment to affordable travel options for Canadians.

WestJet's current fleet consists of nearly 150 Boeing 737 aircraft, and the airline has been flying both the 787 Dreamliner and the 737 MAX on its long-haul routes. The purchase will double WestJet's fleet of Dreamliners, enabling the airline to link Canadians to destinations across Europe, Asia, and Latin America with improved efficiency.

The expanded 787-9 Dreamliner fleet will also significantly improve WestJet's fuel consumption, which is a key factor in the airline's commitment to sustainability.

Stephanie Pope, Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO, expressed her honor and excitement about WestJet's investment in Boeing. She noted that this investment strengthens the three-decade partnership between WestJet and Boeing.

The delivery of the additional 60 Boeing 737-10 and 7 787-9 aircraft to WestJet is expected between 2026 and 2031. This investment is not only a boost for WestJet's growth plans but also promises exciting career paths for WestJet's people.

With this purchase, WestJet has the largest order book of any airline in Canada. The airline's total confirmed order from Boeing is now 123 aircraft, a testament to WestJet's confidence in Boeing's products and WestJet's ambition to expand its fleet and both domestic and international networks.

WestJet initially started operations with three Boeing 737 aircraft in 1996. This latest investment marks a significant milestone in the airline's journey, as it continues to provide affordable and efficient travel options for Canadians.
