Boeree and Kurganov discuss the revival of poker at the WSOP and their controversial podcast
In a recent interview, poker stars Liv Boeree and Igor Kurganov discussed various topics, including their experiences at the 2025 WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas and the future of the game.
Boeree, who made a deep run in the Main Event and cashed in, extended her winning streak, while Kurganov continued his streak of playing the Main Event without cashing. Boeree's impressive performance earned her a significant sum of $2.8 million, setting a record for the biggest cash by a woman in poker history.
Despite going out in fourth place in the WSOP Super Main Event, Boeree expressed no disappointment. "I had 'not an ounce of disappointment,'" she shared. "I'm always grateful for the opportunity to play in such a prestigious event."
Boeree's passion for animal rights was also evident in the interview. She pledged to donate 20% of her winnings from the WSOP Super Main Event to help improve conditions for animals on factory farms.
Kurganov, who hasn't played much poker over the past five years, shared that he made it to Day 3 the first time he played the Main Event, but overslept and blinded out. He revealed that he's been doing things other than playing poker during this time.
The interview touched on various topics, including poker's second boom and the fresh energy in the game. Boeree and Kurganov also discussed whether they plan to play more poker in the future.
listeners can follow Boeree and Kurganov on platform X. The 20-minute interview is now available on Apple and Spotify podcast channels. Boeree's Win-Win podcast, which covers a wide range of topics, can also be checked out.
In a separate episode of her Win-Win podcast, Boeree discussed Brexit and its architect, Dominic Cummings, a British political strategist known for his controversial role during the COVID-19 lockdown and his advocacy for reforming the state through high-tech entrepreneurialism and technocratic management.
Boeree's Win-Win podcast is not the first time she's delved into political discussions. During their interview, Boeree and Kurganov also discussed population dynamics, climate change, and animal rights.
It remains to be seen whether Boeree will return to Paradise this December, but her passion for poker and her commitment to making a positive impact in the world are clear. Kurganov, on the other hand, may continue to explore opportunities outside of poker, but his love for the game remains undeniable.
