Boom in Luxurious Rides: Dubai Reports a 44% Increase in Journeys in the Year 2024
In the vibrant city of Dubai, the transportation landscape underwent a significant transformation in 2024. The e-hail sector, a crucial part of the urban mobility ecosystem, witnessed a remarkable surge in demand and growth.
According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the number of trips in the e-hail sector increased to 32.5 million in 2024 from 24.6 million in the previous year, representing a 32% surge in demand. This growth was accompanied by a corresponding increase in the fleet size of vehicles, expanding from 12,602 in 2023 to 16,396 in 2024.
The growth in the e-hail sector was not a solitary phenomenon. The luxury transport services sector also experienced a 44% increase, with the number of trips reaching 43.4 million in 2024. The total number of passengers transported through these services rose dramatically, reaching 75.5 million in 2024, a 44% increase from the previous year's 52.5 million.
Adel Shakri, the Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA's Public Transport Agency, attributed this growth to Dubai's strategic vision of expanding mobility solutions. He stated that the surge in trips and passengers is a result of Dubai's efforts to cater to the growing transportation needs of residents and visitors.
This growth in the e-hail sector is part of Dubai's broader efforts to strengthen its position as a global leader in urban mobility. In 2024, nine new companies joined Dubai's luxury transport and e-hail sector, including Avi, Breez, Business, IAM Taxi, Max, Royal, Uber, Yalla, and Careem.
The growth in the e-hail sector aims to enhance passenger convenience, underscoring Dubai's commitment to modernizing transport services. This growth underscores the city's dedication to meeting the evolving needs of its residents and visitors, ensuring a seamless and efficient transportation system.
