Border controls by Federal Police NRW deemed a success

In a series of events on Tuesday and Wednesday at Gronau train station, the Federal Police made two significant arrests. On one hand, a 44-year-old German man was detained for a violation of the Narcotics Act, and on the other, a 30-year-old Romanian suspect was apprehended for suspected copper theft.

On Tuesday morning, a 36-year-old Uzbek man was stopped by the Federal Police on the A40 highway. During the check, he presented a forged Austrian identity card. Despite this, his residence permit, issued by the Foreigners' Office in Paderborn, was valid. However, the Uzbek man could not provide a plausible reason for presenting the forged documents, nor could he produce a valid driver's license. After completing the police procedures, he was allowed to continue his journey as no arrest or detention order was issued for him.

Later on the same day, August 19, 2025, the German man was arrested at Gronau train station by the Federal Police. An arrest warrant from the Public Prosecutor's Office in Münster was in place for him, due to a violation of the Narcotics Act. After the completion of police procedures, he was delivered to the prison in Münster to begin serving his 10-month sentence, which was a result of previous convictions.

The Romanian suspect entered federal territory on August 19 as a passenger in a car registered in Wesel. Using fingerprints, the Federal Police at the Kempen Federal Police Station identified his personal details. However, he could not present any identification documents and provided false personal information. During a search of the vehicle, a fake weapon (toy pistol) and another forged Austrian identity card were found in the trunk. The Public Prosecutor's Office in Düsseldorf has issued a detention order for the Romanian, who is wanted by Romanian authorities with a European arrest warrant for copper theft. On Wednesday, the Romanian suspect will be presented to the judge in charge to open the arrest warrant.

It is worth noting that the search results do not provide the name of the current head of the Bundespolizeidirektion Saint Augustin. Further investigations are ongoing to clarify this matter.

Both incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of adhering to the law and presenting valid identification documents when asked by the authorities. The Federal Police continue to work diligently to maintain law and order in the region.
