Borderlands 4's post-release strategy is packed, confirming that the notorious "Invincible" enemies can be farmed as well.
Borderlands 4, the highly-anticipated sequel in the popular looter-shooter series, is set to launch on September 12, 2025, on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Steam, and Epic Games Store.
The action-packed adventure takes players to the Fadefields, where Rush, leader of the Outbounders faction, takes centre stage.
In addition to the main game, Borderlands 4 promises a wealth of post-launch content. One of the first additions will be Maurice's Black Market Machine, a roaming marketplace that appears in a new location each week, selling high-value Legendary loot.
The first seasonal mini-event, Horrors of Kairos, is set to bring spooky weather effects, new cosmetics, and Legendary gear. This event will be followed by two major expansions in 2026, each introducing fresh main story missions, side missions, and new Legendary gear to collect.
Each expansion will also feature a brand-new Vault Hunter with unique skill trees and action skills. The first expansion, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Demand, is themed around cosmic horror and will star Ellie, the daughter of fan-favourite mechanic Moxxi.
For those eager to dive into the action right away, the Gilded Glory Pack is available for pre-order. This pack includes a Level 1 Legendary Maliwan SMG, a Level 30 Legendary Ripper Grenade, a Level 30 Legendary Torque Ordnance, and a Max level Legendary Daedalus Assault Rifle. The Gilded Glory Pack also includes one Vault Hunter skin, two Vault Hunter heads, one weapon skin, and one ECHO-4 drone skin.
Borderlands 4's endgame is being expanded with Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode, introducing new difficulty tiers through gameplay. Weekly Big Encore bosses, tougher variants of existing fights, can be accessed using Eridium through Moxxi's Big Encore Machine.
Community-wide challenges are introduced through Weekly Wildcard missions, which feature enemy modifiers and always include a guaranteed Legendary drop. Invincible bosses, raid-style encounters with massive health pools and unique mechanics, will be available as free content updates. The first Invincible boss arrives in Q4 2025.
In Q1 2026, Pearlescent rarity, more powerful than Legendary gear, will return as a free update.
The German magazine that revealed the paid DLC for Borderlands 4 was published by GamePro. The Deluxe and Super Deluxe Editions of the game include all four Bounty Packs, each featuring new main missions, a boss encounter, a piece of Legendary gear, and a Vault Card with 24 cosmetics and four pieces of re-rollable gear.
