50th Walker Cup: USA and GB&I Set to Battle at Cypress Point

The 50th edition of the prestigious Walker Cup is set to take place at Cypress Point from September 6-7, with the USA and GB&I teams ready to face off in this highly anticipated golf event.

On the USA side, the team will be captained by Nathan Smith and boasts some of the top college golfers in the nation. Michael La Sasso, the NCAA Division 1 individual champion, and US Amateur champion Mason Howell are among the key players in the USA lineup. Other top players include Jackson Koivun, Ben James, Ethan Fang, and Preston Stout. Stewart Hagestad, a three-time US Mid-Amateur champion, adds valuable experience to the team, making his fifth Walker Cup appearance.

The USA team also includes Luke Poulter, the son of Ian Poulter, who has shown promising potential in his golf career. Poulter made it through to the US Amateur match play stages this year, and Weaver, England's no.11 ranked player, will also be representing the USA team. Weaver qualified for the US Open this year, further demonstrating his strong performance.

The USA team is the defending champions, having won 14.5-11.5 last time at St Andrews in 2023. The USA has won the last four Walker Cups, including the ones at Seminole in 2021, Royal Liverpool in 2019, and LACC in 2017.

On the GB&I side, the team will be led by Scotland's Dean Robertson. Cameron Adam and Connor Graham, who both teed it up in The Open at Royal Portrush last month, are part of the GB&I team. Niall Shiels Donegan, a US amateur hero from Scotland, is also part of the squad. Shiels Donegan, who grew up in the Bay Area, made it to the semi-finals in San Francisco in a previous tournament, showcasing his impressive skills.

The GB&I team includes Tyler Weaver, Luke Poulter, Eliot Baker, Dominic Clemons, Charlie Forster, Connor Graham, Stuart Grehan, Gavin Tiernan, and Caolan Rafferty as a reserve.

This year's Walker Cup promises to be an exciting and closely contested event, with both teams fielding strong lineups. Be sure to tune in to catch all the action!

The alternates for the US team at the 50th Walker Cup in 2025 are Miles Russell and Max Herendeen.
