Bucharest residents voice traffic, cost-of-living issues, and pollution as top worries in a recent survey

In a recent survey conducted by the Centre for Urban and Regional Sociology (CURS) in Bucharest, it has been revealed that the city is facing a myriad of challenges. The survey, which was carried out between August 12 and 22 on a sample of 1,100 adults, highlighted several pressing issues that residents are concerned about.

The survey results showed that environmental pressures, such as pollution, are among the challenges facing the city. A significant 14% of respondents highlighted pollution as the single most urgent issue, while cleanliness was a concern for 16%. Traffic congestion was another pressing issue, with 17% of those surveyed pointing to this as the single most urgent issue that City Hall should address.

In addition to environmental concerns, the cost of living was a major worry for 17% of respondents. Hospitals were a concern for 10%, and the heating system, a chronic issue in the capital during the winter months, was a concern for 8%. Parking and public transport were placed at the bottom of residents' concerns.

The survey revealed widespread dissatisfaction with the direction of Bucharest, with 60% of respondents saying the city is heading the wrong way. Only 33% of participants expressed confidence that the capital is moving in the right direction, while the remainder were either uncertain or critical about the direction of the city.

The city's growth and modernization are accompanied by complex challenges for local authorities. Infrastructure gaps are among the challenges facing the city, and these issues need to be addressed to ensure the city's continued growth and development.

The director of the Centre for Urban and Regional Sociology in Bucharest who conceived the research project is Anca Ştefănescu. The survey results provide valuable insights into the concerns and opinions of Bucharest's residents and offer a roadmap for local authorities to address the issues that matter most to the city's residents.
