President Bola Tinubu's administration has pledged to expand social welfare programs, improve agricultural support, and enhance job creation initiatives, with a focus on economic diversification and youth empowerment. However, these claims have sparked debates and criticisms, particularly in comparison to the poverty reduction efforts of former President Muhammadu Buhari's administration.

On Monday, Sumner Sambo, Director of News and Politics Editor at Arise News, raised concerns about the Tinubu government's approach to poverty alleviation. In an interview on Arise Television's programme, The Morning Show, Sambo suggested that Buhari's strategies between 2015 and 2023 were more effective in rolling out poverty reduction programmes than Tinubu's.

Sambo noted that Buhari's efforts in tackling poverty were better coordinated, and he highlighted the introduction of more structured poverty alleviation schemes during Buhari's tenure. Conversely, Sambo criticised the appointments to the poverty alleviation and humanitarian ministry under Tinubu, deeming them poor.

In the same vein, Sambo urged President Tinubu to take criticisms seriously and prioritise poverty alleviation measures. Interestingly, Sambo did not mention any specific achievements of the Bola Tinubu administration in tackling poverty, nor did he specify any personal achievements of Buhari in uplifting the people of Kaduna State.

Notably, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Beta Edu, was sacked from the Tinubu government, which has further fuelled speculations about the administration's commitment to poverty reduction.

It is essential to note that the statements did not provide any specific data or evidence to support the claims made about the performance of the two administrations. However, the debates and criticisms underscore the importance of effective and coordinated poverty reduction strategies in the Tinubu government.

As the Tinubu administration continues to shape its approach to social welfare, agricultural support, and job creation, it will be interesting to observe how it addresses these criticisms and works towards achieving its poverty reduction goals.
