Bus Introduces First Shared Electric Vehicle Charging Program

First Bus, a leading transport operator, has officially launched its new shared-charging initiative called First Charge. This programme is a significant part of First Bus's broader Energy & e-Mobility initiatives, which also include Charging Systems.

First Charge has been developed to offer electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure to businesses, fleet operators, and the wider public. One of the key locations for this initiative is the First Bus Caledonia depot in Glasgow, which has been transformed into a public-facing, ultra-rapid charging hub with charge points for up to 34 vehicles.

The Glasgow depot is open for charging between 9:00 and 16:30 and supports a wide range of payment options, including contactless, roaming cards, and various apps such as Fuuse, Paua, Electroverse, and Allstar.

First Bus is leveraging its position as an industry leader to share its infrastructure and accelerate decarbonisation. The operator of the Glasgow depot, which provides public access to rapid EV charging, is First Bus.

The shared charging initiative aims to help other users move faster towards decarbonisation. In line with this goal, First Bus has an ultimate aim to contribute to the decarbonisation efforts in the United Kingdom.

To encourage the use of the charging facilities, the introductory rate for charging at the Glasgow depot is 0.39 GBP/kWh. This operator, with an investment of over Β£320m to date, aims to achieve a zero-emission fleet by 2035.

First Charge will be utilised in 15 depots across England and Scotland. This move demonstrates First Bus's commitment to supporting the transition towards a greener transport sector. By offering EV infrastructure to a wider audience, First Bus is helping to make electric vehicles more accessible and affordable for all.
