In an unsettling incident that occurred on Friday afternoon, a 23-year-old man attacked a bus driver and an employee of the Freiburg Transport Authority in Littenweiler, Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany.
The incident unfolded around 16:45 at the end stop of Lassbergstraße. According to reports, the man had been involved in an argument with the bus driver due to a perceived premature departure at one of the previous stops. The disagreement escalated, and the man, who had also forgotten his mobile phone on the line bus, became aggressive.
The aggressor smashed the windshield of the bus with a metal object, causing it to shatter, and struck the bus driver in the cheek. Another employee of the transport company, a 57-year-old man, came to the bus driver's aid but was pushed out of the bus towards the bus stop canopy by the assailant.
Both employees were injured in the process and had to be transported to a nearby clinic for examination. Fortunately, they were able to restrain the man before the police arrived. The police took over the provisional arrest of the 23-year-old man.
The line bus was no longer operational due to the attack and had to be taken to the depot, resulting in disruptions in local transport. The Freiburg-South Police Station has taken over the investigation and is asking witnesses who witnessed the beginning and course of the argument to come forward and report their observations.
