Business Updates on Landgericht Gießen's Corporate Ventures
The Gießen Regional Court, a key institution in the justice system of the region, is making significant strides in modernization and organizational changes.
One of the most notable developments is the ongoing renovation of Courtroom 207. This renovation aims to prepare the courtroom for complex criminal proceedings involving a larger number of defendants. The work includes the new cabling of the courtrooms to ensure the operation of the electronic file in criminal proceedings, which is set to be introduced in the fall of 2025.
Training for service units and judges for the e-file in criminal proceedings has already begun, setting the stage for a smooth transition. In fact, the electronic file has been the standard for civil proceedings at the Regional Court of Giessen since the beginning of 2025.
The court's personnel situation saw a slight increase in 2024, mainly due to an increase in the number of legal trainees. As of December 31, 2024, a total of 259 people were employed at the Regional Court of Giessen. The court also allocated additional personnel to cover the organizational workload of the e-exam in the Second State Examination in late 2024.
The Second State Examination is under the supervision of the Gießen Regional Court, with the exams predominantly held at the Congress Hall and Bürgerhaus Wieseck locations in Gießen.
The court has also seen an increase in complaints proceedings by 3% compared to the previous year. In appeal proceedings, however, there was a decrease of 12.6% compared to the previous year.
The court's caseload in civil cases remains nearly at the same level as the previous year, with only a slight decrease of 1.5%. The large area of medical malpractice cases and construction cases remains at the level of the previous years. There is a slight decrease in traffic accident cases, insurance contract cases, and capital investment disputes compared to 2023, but with a total of 469 cases, an average is reached from the years 2021 and 2022.
The court's diversity is also noteworthy, with the share of female employees at 60%. However, the president of the Regional Court Gießen since August 2025 is not clearly indicated in the available search results.
Despite these changes, one constant remains: the organization of the written exams in the First State Examination in Law, which are still written "by hand," falls under the responsibility of the employees at the Gießen Regional Court, in coordination with the Justice Examination Office.
In a final note, it is worth mentioning that the lightweight hall at "Stolzenmorgen" will no longer be available for the Regional Court of Giessen by the end of the year. This development will undoubtedly impact the court's operations, and it will be interesting to see how they adapt to this change.
