Businesses are encouraged to take part in the consultation process for the proposed framework, as suggested by Aus3C.
The Australian Cyber Collaboration Centre (Aus3C) is inviting businesses across various sectors to participate in a series of nationwide workshops aimed at shaping the future of data protection in Australia. These workshops, scheduled for late February 2023, will take place in Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne.
Aus3C envisions a future where strong data protection is accessible and achievable across the Australian economy. The lack of a consistent data classification framework, according to Aus3C's Program Lead, Tyler Key, presents challenges in communicating data risk internally and with external partners, hindering the implementation of appropriate security measures.
The workshops, part of Aus3C's efforts to establish a unified, common approach to assessing data risk and protecting data in organisations across multiple sectors, will allow organisations to express how strong data protection might be best achieved for them and their business partners.
Specific Australian companies participating in these workshops are not publicly listed, but their involvement is expected to shape the development and refinement of the Voluntary Data Classification Framework (VDCF), a key part of the 2023-2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy. The VDCF seeks to address long-standing industry challenges in classifying data and is set to be launched by late 2025.
The workshops will provide businesses with the opportunity to network with their peers and voice their challenges and offer potential solutions regarding data security. They will also allow businesses to express how the VDCF might help their organisation and business partners.
The Brisbane workshop will be held on Wednesday, 19 February, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at UQ, CBD Campus - The Atrium, 308 Queen St, Brisbane, QLD 4000. The Sydney workshop will be held on Tuesday, 18 February, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at UTS, 15 Broadway, Ultimo, NSW 2000. The Melbourne workshop will be held on Wednesday, 26 February, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at NBN, Tower 5, 727 Collins St, Docklands, VIC 3008.
These workshops aim to gather insights, challenges, and potential solutions regarding data security from Australian businesses. Business contributions at these workshops will help shape the VDCF and influence the nation's cybersecurity landscape.
Businesses across various industries are encouraged to participate in these workshops, which will allow them to provide insights, voice their challenges, and offer potential solutions regarding data security. The VDCF is a crucial step towards a more secure digital future for businesses in Australia.
